If your Honda key is hard to insert, STOP! Forcing it will only cause more damage to both the key and the internal lock components. As a temporary measure, try a small amount of lubricant like INOX, RP7, or WD40 in the keyhole – don’t overdo it. Then, gently try inserting the key again. If it goes in smoothly, that might buy you some time, but it’s a sign you need to get it fixed soon. Don’t wait for it to fail completely!

To access the faulty ignition barrel, we first need to remove the plastic cover (cowling) around the steering column. Following this, we carefully disconnect all the surrounding cables and the aerial ring for the immobilizer system.
Next, we attempt to remove the roll pin that secures the barrel. If we’re fortunate, this will come out easily without further disassembly. However, if the pin is stuck, we may need to address the tamper-proof shear-off bolts that Honda uses to deter theft.
These bolts are intentionally difficult to remove, but our specialized techniques, honed through years of experience, allow us to extract them safely and effectively, with no risk to your airbag.
Once the ignition lock housing is accessible (which may involve removing it entirely from the steering column), we can then work on the faulty barrel & key.
We’ll either carefully disassemble it to replace only the necessary worn or broken internal components (like the tumblers or wafers) or, if the damage is too extensive or a reliable long-term repair isn’t possible, we will proceed with a complete cylinder replacement using a high-quality aftermarket Honda ignition cylinder that matches your key.
