Lost Letterbox Key

Assistance with Lost Letterbox Keys in Melbourne

Lost letterbox keys can be a major headache for anybody. The mail keeps filling up the box, and you have to fish it out though the slot if you’re lucky. At 24h Melbourne Locksmith, we offer fast assistance with letterbox locks. Whether you’ve lost a key and need another one cut or you require a complete lock replacement, our trusted locksmiths can provide a solution.
A lock so small doesn’t seem to warrant a service call from a locksmith, and sometimes it doesn’t! We can often cut keys for locks with a code number from a photo only.

A lot of these codes have the same configuration and can be confusing. For example, a Lock Focus and Lockwood cam lock can both share the same code numbers, but the locks are definitely different and one lock’s keys will not work in the other.

From these photos, you can see the relative position of the code stamped on the face of the lock. We can usually identify the lock from the image alone.
Simply take a photo of the lock, send it through by email or SMS, and give us a call to discuss delivery requirements. For 2 keys cut to code, delivered by Next Day Express Post, we charge $49.50inc GST.

If There’s No Code Number On Your Lock

If there’s no code number, we can attend the property and make keys by hand on site. This is usually just a matter of opening the locked letterbox, disassembling the lock, and cutting the keys by hand. It should take no more than 15 -30 minutes per lock. For 2 x keys cut on site, we only charge $132inc GST.

Once the first key is made, any number of copies can be made quickly and efficiently there on site in our fully equipped mobile workshop van.

Letterbox Lock Replacement

If we have to come on site to physically disassemble the lock, then you may want to consider installing a new lock altogether. The cost of letterbox lock replacement is only slightly more than making keys for your existing lock, and there are some great advantages like:

  • 1 key convenience – Use your front door key to open your letterbox
  • Higher security locks – Harder to force / pick open
  • Restricted Keyways Compatible – Great for Commercial Applications
  • 5 year warranty

The new Carbine C4 Cam Lock can be keyed alike to your front door and installed in your letterbox. It can take a restricted plug and it’s compatible with all major high security plugs in the Australian market.
A standard quality cam lock costs around $20-$40 and has a little key that’s hard to find in the dark, and anyone can get keys cut using the code number. The Carbine C4 Cam Lock costs only slightly more in the scheme of things (around $50-$70) and has a much higher security level than your average cam lock. You also will never fumble looking for your keys again, because it will be the same as your front door key.
To attend your property and install a Carbine C4 Cam Lock, keyed to your existing front door, we charge $165inc GST. Nearly all front door keys are compatible, but not all. Give us a call today to find out about yours.

Other Keys to Code

Filing cabinets, office furniture and garage door handles can also have code numbers stamped on the face of the lock. It’s also possible to make keys for these locks by code. Simply take a photo and send it on over to us by SMS or email and we will have a look.
